I fell in love with Bali in 2018, when I visited “The Island of the Gods” for the first time with my family to celebrate my husband’s birthday.

Instantly, I was captivated by the island’s charm, was head over heels for its unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. I’ve returned twice since, each time accompanied by a group of my cherished “Sparklers” — a community of travel enthusiasts who share my passion for discovering the world.

Each of the group trips I planned sold out within a week, and we had to expand them to 30 to 32 guests. Planning a trip to Bali requires careful consideration to ensure a comprehensive adventure. I recommend clients begin their journey in Ubud, the cultural and spiritual heart of the island, for four nights. Explore its lush landscapes, vibrant arts scene and serene temples. After that, a move to either Nusa Dua for beachfront relaxation or Seminyak for its lively nightlife for three days is ideal, extending the trip to seven nights.

Here’s a Bali itinerary I’ve designed that offers a balance of cultural immersion, adventure and relaxation:

Day 1: Start in Ubud. Unwind from a long flight by spending the afternoon just taking in the serene landscapes of the town.

In the evening, kick off the adventure with dinner, traditionally served lukewarm, and get a taste of Balinese hospitality. On our trips, I organized a group dinner at a Balinese restaurant and hired some traditional dancers to perform.

Day 2: Visit Aloha Ubud Swing. Choose a flowing dress for rent to add flair to your photos at this one-of-a-kind theme park; dresses can be rented at the park for about $20. Capture breathtaking views of lush rice terraces, perfect for those Instagrammable moments.

Bali’s is a predominantly Hindu culture, centered around an abundance of temples, known as pura. Each pura functions as a spiritual center, blending rituals and ceremonies into daily life for the locals.

One such pura is Tirta Empul temple, a sacred site known for its purifying holy spring waters.

Day 3: Cultural exploration. At Lempuyang temple, visit the pura’s renowned “Gates of Heaven” for an unforgettable photo opportunity and spectacular views as well as spiritual insight.

Then, be sure to take a dip at Blangsinga Waterfall, one of the island’s most picturesque locations, which makes for some remarkable photos. And a walk across the Glass Bridge in Gianyar is a must for more breathtaking views.

Day 4: Relax and enjoy. After a busy Day 3, take some time at your resort, indulging in the tranquility and perhaps spending some time at a spa or exploring some other activities — maybe a Balinese cooking class.

Day 5: Traditional healing. Embrace the inner peace brought by shamanic Balinese healing practices, a unique cultural experience.

Then, it’s time to transfer to a beachfront resort in either Nusa Dua for boundless relaxation or in Seminyak for a livelier ambience. My groups stayed at the Laguna Beach Resort and Spa and The Apurva, a Kempinski hotel, in Nusa Dua. In Seminyak, I would recommend the W Hotel as a spot for those who enjoy the nightlife.

Day 6: Island Adventure. Book a day cruise to Nusa Lembongan. Enjoy time at a beach club, partaking in water activities and island exploration.

Day 7: Relaxation. A day to just relax at the resort, enjoying sun and the beach.  Or explore local attractions at your leisure.

Day 8: Depart for home.

Bali is a destination that promises something for every traveler, whether you’re seeking tranquility, adventure or cultural immersion. Bali invites you to discover its magic and create memories that will last a lifetime.
